$2.5 million class action settlement for employees of Papa John’s regarding unlawful policies

General managers and employees of Papa John’s locations in California filed a class action lawsuit, represented by Kabateck LLP, against Papa John’s for its systematic failure to provide general managers overtime compensation, and for its failure to provide all employees meal and rest periods. The lawsuit alleged that Papa John’s misclassified General Managers in California as “exempt” from California wage and hour laws, depriving them of overtime compensation, meal periods, and rest periods guaranteed to them by California law. The lawsuit also alleged that Papa John’s unlawful break policies deprived non-exempt, or hourly employees the meal and rest periods that were guaranteed to them under California law. This case was settled for $2.5 million dollars.
