Update: Kabateck LLP Continues Fighting for Planada Flood Victims

A recent report from SJV Water highlights the ongoing struggles faced by Planada residents more than two years after the devastating 2023 floods. Our firm continues to represent over 100 residents in litigation seeking full compensation for the damages they’ve suffered.

Despite over $40 million in promised state and federal recovery funding, many families remain displaced or living in unsafe conditions. As attorney Shant Karnikian noted in the article, “The $20 million allocated for Planada is a drop in the bucket compared to the damages these people have suffered.”

We remain deeply concerned about the recovery process and are actively working to protect our clients’ interests. Recent actions include sending a formal letter to Merced County requesting that all communication with our Planada clients be coordinated through our office to ensure proper legal representation during this complex recovery period.

Our litigation addresses both the immediate flood damages and the ongoing failure to properly maintain Miles Creek and other local waterways that continue to pose flood risks to this vulnerable community.

We stand with the residents of Planada as they fight for the safe, habitable homes and full recovery they deserve. Our commitment to this community remains unwavering as we work toward comprehensive solutions and fair compensation.
