Shant Karnikian Quoted in California Business Journal on Bad Faith Lawsuit Against Mercury Insurance

California Business Journal covered Kabateck LLP’s bad faith lawsuit against Mercury Insurance on behalf of an Altadena family whose home was contaminated with dangerous levels of lead following the Eaton Fire.

Mercury attempted to close the claim before inspecting the property, ignored evidence of contamination, disregarded its own consultants’ findings, refused proper remediation, and withheld payments for undisputed amounts—all in violation of California law. The family was displaced for nine months.

“There’s a common playbook in insurance bad faith cases: delay the reports, challenge the science, minimize the damage, and hope families get worn down before the claim is ever properly paid,” Karnikian told California Business Journal.
