Kabateck LLP is pleased to announce the launch of Kabateck & Karnikian Off the Record, a new podcast in partnership with the Daily Journal Network.
Hosted by founding partner Brian Kabateck and managing partner Shant Karnikian, the show breaks down the cases, court fights and political battles shaping legal practice across California. Drawing on decades of trial experience and a front-row view of the state’s biggest legal stories, the two cut through the headlines to show what is really happening inside California’s courts and the communities they serve. The premise is simple: not just analysis, but the kind of conversation lawyers have when the recorder’s off, except this time it’s on.
The first episode is live now. Brian and Shant walk through the recent chemical evacuation in Garden Grove, where more than 50,000 people were ordered out, and what happens legally in the wake of a near-disaster like it. They explain why plaintiffs’ lawyers are already mobilizing and how the two main models for compensating victims, class actions and mass torts, differ in practice. They also discuss why this case likely looks more like a class action than the Eaton Fire or Porter Ranch litigation, how the East Palestine train derailment settlement became a cleanup tool for claims that were never individually filed, and the question of how soon is too soon for plaintiffs’ lawyers to start advertising, including a billboard ad shot from a hospital that caught both hosts’ attention.
New episodes release every Friday. Watch Kabateck & Karnikian Off the Record on the Daily Journal Network.
