Trial Lawyers Pushing Legislation to Streamline Access to Medical Records

Daily Journal

Brian Kabateck spoke to the Daily Journal about a new bill in the works aimed at making it easier and more affordable for attorneys to obtain their client’s medical records. The bill, AB 2059 by Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi, D-Torrance would enable lawyers to request records electronically from hospitals, costing no more than $125 plus a $30 processing fee. Katabeck told the publication how attorneys are frustrated by the lengthy delays and complications involved with obtaining medical records. “It gets very complicated, very fast,” said Kabateck.
