Ronald I. Karz focuses on new case development at Kabateck Brown Kellner, LLP. Leading a team that includes both research and marketing specialists, Mr. Karz applies his background to evaluating the broad range of cases that come to KBK and, ultimately, recommending whether the case should be retained.
Mr. Karz is a veteran lawyer with more than 21-years in practice and more than 10,000 court appearances. His diverse base of "in the trenches" experience includes serving the public for over 13 years as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County, and as Senior Attorney responsible for interstate and international support enforcement matters for Santa Clara County. He has more than eight years of experience in inter-jurisdictional law, including interpretation and application of foreign law and court orders from countries as varied as Australia, Germany, Hungary, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. Mr. Karz’s legal background includes criminal prosecution, criminal defense, plaintiff personal injury, insurance defense, family law, probate and elder law. He is an acknowledged expert on the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act, and has taught continuing legal education to other attorneys on that subject.
In addition, Mr. Karz co-edited a procedural manual for the State of California for determining controlling child and spousal support orders when conflicting orders from different states or countries exist. Working at different times for two of California’s largest Counties, Mr. Karz litigated thousands of interstate and international cases. In one case, he obtained a judgment of over $200,000.00 for a mother in Texas, 20 years after the father, a "minister" in a religious cult, fled Texas for California, kidnapping two of the couple’s four minor children. This case involved a year and a half of litigation under a cloud of threats and attempted intimidation from the father’s "church".
