Little recourse for Sony employees

The unprecedented cyber attack at Sony Studios has again raised issues about the security of personal data online.  Former employees at Sony Studios are scrambling for legal relief by filing multiple class action lawsuits accusing the movie studio of failing to protect their confidential information from online hackers.  Sony employees had their personal and medical information, salaries, social security numbers, and emails leaked, among other information.  Arguably, Sony could have done more to protect its employees’ data.  This fact is particularly true if Sony indeed had warning that such an attack was forthcoming, as rumors suggest, and considering the data breach of its PlayStation Network in 2011.  Nevertheless, the legal remedies available to the Sony employees for this recent breach of privacy are uncertain or weak, at best.
